Turtle Talk
A Close Look At The Threatened Delaware Bog Turtle
DREW welcomed Amy J. Nazdrowicz, an environmental scientist and registered Professional Wetland Scientist to speak on the delicate balance between development and environmental conservation. The federally threated bog turtle inhabits the wetlands of our region. These turtles serve as indicators of healthy wetland ecosystems, which are vital for water quality, flood control, and biodiversity. However, habitat loss can poses significant threats to their survival. By integrating conservation considerations into our projects, we can protect these sensitive habitats while advancing responsible development. We explored the bog turtle’s ecological role, the regulatory landscape, and best practices for harmonizing development with environmental stewardship.
